OUR HISTORY

On August 16, 2009, a few gathered around a boardroom in response to a call from Rev. Dr. Mark Kearse and he shared the vision that God had given him: a ministry, a church, and the name Cornerstone. Rev. Kearse had acknowledged the call two years prior but in obedience to God, he continued to prepare himself while God prepared the way.

The official name Cornerstone Baptist Church of York, Pennsylvania was established on August 21, 2009.

Plans were put in place to hold the first Service, “Sunday Night Fire, at the Yorktowne Hotel (48 E. Market St., York) on Sunday,” September 13, 2009, at 6:00 p.m.  Pastor Kearse preached Philippians 1:3-17.  Ten people joined the ministry that evening.

Rev. Kearse worked diligently on securing a church building; however, the first offer was declined.

We continued to hold scheduled services and Bible Study at the Yorktowne Hotel.

During the first Communion service, Sunday, October 4, 2009, Rev. Kearse announced that a friend connected him with a local UCC church for an opportunity, and he asked the congregation to pray. On October 14, 2009, Rev. Kearse received word from Pastor Matthew Seeds that the members of Zion United Church of Christ, 100 Lafayette Street, York, PA, approved for Cornerstone to share their sanctuary.

On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Cornerstone held its first service in the main sanctuary of the beautiful edifice of Zion United Church of Christ.

Cornerstone relocated to 629 South Pershing Avenue, York, PA on Sunday, March 2, 2014, and now worships at this location every Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

Cornerstone continues to grow as new souls are added to the Kingdom of God.
